Time and again, in books and film, we're asked to believe in the magic baby, a child that grows to maturity in a matter of days, destined to save the world (or possibly wreak utter destruction.) What makes it so attractive to so many writers? What are some of the problems that writers fail to deal with when employing the mystical pregnancy plotline?
